As usual, the ‘800’ series is devoted to being the brain of the flagship device, while the ‘700’ series will be more embedded in middle-class devices. 5G network support and artificial intelligence (AI) are the main focus of the two newer chipsets.
Snapdragon 865
However, slightly missed the initial rumours that had circulated, Snapdragon 865 chipset is not integrated with a 5G Snapdragon X55 modem. Instead of being planted directly into the Snapdragon 865 chipset, the Snapdragon X55 modem will be available as a separate option. Vendors who want to use the Snapdragon 865 chipset on their device must pair the chipset with a Snapdragon X55 modem, not with a different modem. In other words, all smartphones powered by Snapdragon 865 will definitely support 5G. “The Snapdragon 865 mobile flagship platform, including the Snapdragon X55 System 5G-RF modem, is the fastest 5G platform in the world, providing unparalleled connectivity and performance for future flagship devices,” Qualcomm said, as reported by TechCrunch. SVP and General Manager of Qualcomm Alex Katouzian said, Snapdragon 865 will also continue to support the previous cellular network technology, which is 4G and below. The X55 modem itself is designed more sophisticated than the previous X50 modem, with support for standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) networks. There is also mmWave and sub-6GHz support on the FDD frequency and more bandwidth on the sub-6 GHz frequency are also available to support 5G connectivity.
Snapdragon 765
Unlike the Snapdragon 865, the Snapdragon 765 chipset actually already has an integrated 5G modem, the Snapdragon X52, which has also just been introduced. “Snapdragon 765 is integrated with 5G connectivity, has more advanced artificial intelligence, and Snapdragon Elite Gaming Experience,” said Qualcomm.
Chipset manufacturer from the US has also revealed the ranks of flagships that will be powered by Snapdragon 865, such as Galaxy S11, OnePlus 8, Pixel 5, Galaxy Note 11, LG G9, Xiaomi Mi Note 10, and many more. While Snapdragon 765 is ready to become the brain for Redmi K30 and OPPO Reno 3 Pro 5G which will launch next year.
